JX-Speccy DocumentationIn order to play JX-Speccy games you need:
a fast computer (a Pentium II 350Mhz or higher)
any browser with java support; I suggest you to use Netscape 4.5 (or later versions) or Internet Explorer 4.0 (or later versions)
After the initialization phase (gfx initialization, speed calibration, rom loading, ecc.), the JX-Speccy applet should start emulating the ZX-Spectrum: the following screen appears:

This is the BASIC prompt of the ZX-Spectrum. In order to load a game you must choose it from the list at the top of the screen:
![]()
and then press the Play button.If the game is in .TAP format the ZX-Spectrum will start loading it automatically after a reset.
When the game is started, you must read carefully the instructions on the screen. In most game you will be able to redefine the keys, in other you'll need to find 'em by yourself while playing. For those that are not familiar with Spectrum keyboard, frequently used key combinations are:
5=left, 6=down, 7=up, 8=right, 0 or 9 = fire (also known as cursor joystick)
q=left, w=right, e=down, r=up, t=fire
q=up, a=down, o=left, p=right, z-m=fire
If available, you can select KEMPSTON JOYSTICK: JX-Speccy emulates it using the arrow keys and tab key:
= left,
= right,
= up,
= down,
=
fire
If you want to play another game choose it from the list and click play button again.
There are two special ZX-Spectrum keys (perhaps you'll need 'em in some games):
the SYMBOL SHIFT key : emulated with the '.' (dot)
the CAPS SHIFT key: emulated with the ',' (comma)
The following keys are also available:
PAUSE/CONTINUE
check if JX-Speccy emulation is running at full speed. "Running at
full speed" means that the emulator is running at 100% of the spectrum speed;
"Running at slower speed" means that the emulator is slower than a real spectrum
activate/deactivate the flash-attribute handler
increase the number of frames skipped (higher emulation speed, but less
fluid play)
decrease the number of frames skipped (the default is "0 frames
skipped")
In order to increase the emulation speed you can try one (or more) of these tricks:
close all windows and applications except the one with the JX-Speccy emulator
try increasing the frames skipped (press F12)
deactivate the flash-attribute handler (press F9)
try to play the game in normal screen mode rather than in full screen mode
First of all be sure that:
your browser supports java applets (if it doesn't, upgrade it or use Netscape 4.5+ or Internet Explorer 4.0+)
check if java and javascript options are enabled (look at your browser options or preferences)
Try reloading the whole page (press "Reload" or "Refresh" button in your browser); if ot dowsn't work close the browser, re-open it and reload the page.
Simply click with the left mouse button over the game and retry.
